About the Symposium

Technology enhances learning and impacts on the way education takes place. With the advances in information and communication technology, the Internet and new media are enabling the emergence of new mechanism of human associations as well as communications which are shaped by – yet also shape – the development of educational practices. It seems that all information is available on the web. In lecture halls nowadays, for instance, it is not uncommon to notice that some students no longer listen to lectures but are engaged in using the Internet and their mobile devices, not actively seeking relevant information to help their understanding and learning but being sidetracked by irrelevant online materials. This phenomenon may represent a shift from teacher-centered to student-centered mode of teaching and learning. Teachers are no longer the only focus to learning. With all sorts of information on the web, teachers may wonder what their roles should be. They may no longer be the ones they used to be and need to re-define their roles in the communication and learning process.
