Professor Yam holds a doctoral degree in mass communication - education conferred by Teachers College, Columbia University in the city of New York and is an expert in communications. He has contributed over 90 pieces of scholarly manuscripts and has them published in books or peer-reviewed journals such as the Chinese University Education Journal. His recent publications include two Chinese books, namely 《口語傳意權能 ─ 人際關係策略與潛力》 (2006) and 《教育 傳意 創意﹕理論與實踐》 (2012). He also serves as a reviewer for other academic publications such as the Journal of Moral Education and the New Horizons in Education. More than these, he has delivered his knowledge and expertise to the general public through other communication means such as television and radio programmes.

Professor Yam has been a frequent recipient of prestigious awards such as various scholarships, university grants, and the 1990 Robert deKieffer International Fellowship Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions as an international leader in the field of educational communications and technology by the ECT Foundation, Washington, D.C. He was also a subject of the biographical records in MARQUIS Who’s Who in the World 2007.


Before retirement Professor Yam lectured in various tertiary educational institutes for years in the United States and Hong Kong, including but not limited to Teachers College, Columbia University; Communication Institute, East-West Center; University of Pittsburgh; University of San Francisco; Lingnan College in Hong Kong (then University); School of Education, the Chinese University of Hong Kong; Hong Kong Baptist University; Hong Kong Shue Yan University; Hong Kong Institute of Education and Chu Hai College of Higher Education. He has been serving different organizations, including business sector, mass communication and film industry, as consultants and lecturers/professors.
