“The Role of Educational Communications and Educational Technology in Year 2000”, held in the Hong Kong Polytechnic. The first conference (1990) ; Exhibition

     Guest of Honor  was Ms. Rita Fan, the now chairperson of the HKSAR Legislative Council and Keynote Speakers came from USA, China and Taiwan. About 300 tertiary educators and professionals coming from mainland China, Taiwan, US, Macau, Singapore and Malaysia attended the Conference.

     It was the very first conference of its kind held in Hong Kong bringing scholars from both the mainland and Taiwan together. We used "three spoken media and two languages" to exchange views and thoughts in the development of communication and educational technology.

    Besides organizing the afore mentioned international conferences, and conducting more than ten workshops for local members and professionals, the HKAECT  hosted over 600 Chinese scholars and professionals in a number of occasions, including the recent collaboration with the China Educational Technology Association, and Hong Kong Baptist University (November 2006) . The Association made special arrangements for them to visit several tertiary institutions, secondary schools, primary schools, and also The Radio Television Hong Kong (ETV) and a few landmarks in Hong Kong.

 The Role of Educational Communications and Educational Technology

in Year 2000


    The first conference (1990) being: "The Role of Educational Communications and Educational Technology in Year 2000" with technology exhibitions. Guest of Honor and Keynote Speakers were Ms. Rita Fan, the now chairperson of the HKSAR Legislative Council, Mr. John Nelson President (1990) of Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT), Washington D.C., Dr. Clem Chow, Past President of AECT, and Dr. Jenny Johnson of Maryland University.
 
    About 300 tertiary educators and professionals coming from mainland China, Taiwan, US, Macau, Singapore and Malaysia attended the Conference. The following conferences were organized by HKAECT, sponsored by the Consortium for the Promotion of Teaching Skills and Technology Project, Lingnan College (funded by the University Grant Committee), co-sponsored by Vega Technology Ltd, Cosmo Vision Technology and Eduserve:

  
     1998: "Theoretical Framework and Scope of Practical Application in
                 Chinese Educational Technology Towards the 21st century

        co-organized by The Chinese Association of Educational Technology, the Shenzhen
        Audio-Visual Bureau and HKAECT. More then twenty members and professional
        from Hong Kong attended the conference in Shenzhen.

               We also visited the Shenzhen University, the Shenzhen Radio & TV University,
       the Book City and other sightseeing spots. Over 100 Chinese scholars and professionals
       from the mainland visited the Hong Kong Baptist University, the Hong Kong University
       of Sciencec and Technology (HKUST), RTHK (ETV) and a few landmarks in Hong Kong.

                   the 21st century

               The Conference will feature a number of keynote
       addresses which will explore  the innovative issues in the
       use of educational multi-media technology in higher
       education  as well as the new challenges in the training and
       development industry. The humanistic roles  played in the
       tertiary teaching and learning aspects will also be
       discussed.
